Brief

This project was classed as a 'Design for Need' project on my course.

I decided upon designing a multi functional product especially for those living in small, confined accommodation.

The main issues I personally had found living in such situations, were lack of space for seating, not enough room for a dinner table, and almost no storage space or surfaces.

Therefore, I tasked myself with designing a product, targeted at people living in small homes, between the ages of 18-30.

I wanted the design to be bright and cheerful, to help lighten up possibly small dark rooms, but more importantly, adaptable.

The Solution

'ned' is an occasional table, sometimes a chair, can be a shelf and occasionally sits on your lap.

I took the name of an everyday piece of furniture, the occasional table, and went literal with it. I thought, what if it is just occasionally a table, what might it spend the rest of it's time being?

Below, are a number of slides from a presentation I gave for this project - a tad tongue in cheek, but I feel it gets the design across in a fun and playful way.
